EXPORTS TO THE US FROM CANADA
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) has issued a reminder that penalties will apply to all Wood Packaging Materials (WPM) that do not meet the International Standards of Phytosanitary Measures Regulation 15 (ISPM 15) on and after the effective date of November 1, 2017.
This regulation states that all non-exempt wood packaging material (Exempt examples: CHEP (blue) Pallets, fibreboard and MDF etc.) must comply with the rules and be heat treated at approved facilities at places of origin.
Once treated the WPM must bear a visible/legible permanent mark certifying treatment.
This mark must be approved by International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC)

Failure to comply will result in the shipment being refused entry into the US, and possibly destroyed.

The responsible party (importer, carrier etc.) will be responsible for any costs or charges associated with disposition as well as penalties.
